Overview
AFAR is an annual science fiction film festival in Sacramento that takes place over the course of one weekend and presents Sci-Fi favorites, past and present. This project consisted of designing a brand identity system for the festival and applying it to both digital and print promotional materials.
Concept
Science fiction is a broad genre that includes many different subjects and themes, but they all share a common theme of exploration and adventure into a new world, wether it is to the center of the Earth, to a futuristic galaxy, or inside someone’s dreams. To represent this sense of wonder, I experimented with abstract photography and heavy use of textures, both analog and digital, while overlaying a generally vibrant color palette that alludes to space. The result was a design evokes feelings of exploration and adventure visually taking the audience to a new, unknown world where it is up to them to determine what they were looking at.
